When did the screen stop being a tool and start being an escape?
Internet addiction is one of the fastest-growing struggles I see — and one of the least talked about. It can take many forms: compulsive social media scrolling, gaming that swallows entire days, online gambling or shopping, pornography, or simply the inability to put the phone down even when it’s costing you sleep, work, relationships, and peace of mind.
The technology in your pocket was engineered by teams of experts to capture and hold your attention. If you’ve lost the battle for your own focus, it’s not because you’re weak — it’s because the game was rigged. But you can take your attention, your time, and your life back.
How I can help
Unlike substance addiction, the goal here usually isn’t total abstinence — most of us need to be online. That makes recovery a different kind of challenge: learning to live with technology without being consumed by it. Together, we will:
Identify what the screen is soothing. Compulsive internet use is almost always an escape from something — loneliness, anxiety, boredom, conflict, or feelings that are hard to sit with. We’ll work on the underlying need, not just the behavior.
Rebuild real-world rewards. When online life crowds out everything else, offline life stops competing. We’ll deliberately rebuild the relationships, activities, and goals that make the real world worth showing up for.
Create structure that works. Using cognitive behavioral strategies, we’ll design realistic boundaries around your use — and build your capacity to keep them.
Whether it’s you or someone you love who’s struggling, this is a real issue deserving of real help. There’s no shame in it here.
Living life passionately without limitations and regrets from the past intruding into today and tomorrow is the path to happiness and freedom.
